All-New BMC Teammachine SLR: 10 Years in the Lead

10 years ago, BMC launched a bike that kickstarted a revolution in the design and construction of the performance road bike. The Teammachine SLR, has won every major title that a bike can win including; Monuments, World Championships, Olympic Games and the Tour de France. Using the combined knowledge from the past decade, BMC has changed the game again to deliver an all-new, class-leading frameset ready to lead for another 10 years.

ACE+ the Plus to Race to the Front

Developed by BMC, the Accelerated Composite Evolution Technology (ACE) creates thousands of virtual prototypes, calculating cross-sections of the frame, carbon layup and geometrical structure, to achieve the perfect balance of performance. “To continue in the lead, you need a plus. For the development of the latest Teammachine, we optimized our ACE technology and introduced a fourth key parameter; weight, stiffness, compliance, and now advanced aerodynamics,” says Mart Otten.

Stiffness Where It’s Needed

Renowned for its power transfer, the new Teammachine SLR goes one step further with a wider bottom bracket contact area, provided by the new downtube shape and the optimized carbon layup. Headtube, fork, steerer and ICS bar system; every element was considered and improved in order to deliver highest-degree responsiveness and agility.

When Weight Matters

Weight makes the difference between winning and losing when the road points up and the Teammachine SLR has you covered. By further developing the proprietary Integrated Cockpit System (ICS) and redesigning key parts, BMC has been able to significantly reduce the weight of the complete frameset. Meet an all-new generation of integrated cockpits: ICS Carbon and ICS2, representing a step forward in bike design and functional integration. The new ICS Carbon sports a low-weight, one-piece-design, with high stiffness and stealth cable routing. With 305 grams, the ICS Carbon cockpit is 30% lighter than the more traditional cockpits and is one of the lightest on the market. Available in six lengths (90 to 140mm), it comes with two computer mounts that are thread adjustable in length and fit most computers. ICS2 features a sleek new design to maintain the iconic ICS functionality, with lower weight and improved stiffness. ICS2 is set to become the world’s most adaptable integrated cockpit system.

Continuing this path, a new D-shape seatpost removes any excess material, and optimized carbon layup and minimalistic paint reduce the overall weight by 160 grams (9%), compared to the previous generation Teammachine, while still making it more aerodynamic. Thanks to recalculated shapes and layups, and the stealth dropout design, the fork accomplishes the lofty goal of being lighter, but also stiffer and more aero than ever.

Comfort Is Speed

Thanks to the latest evolution of the Tuned Compliance Concept technology, the new Teammachine is more compliant than ever. TCC allows for the fine tuning of the carbon layups to deliver Compliance levels tailored to specific styles and terrains. TCC Race, allows essential vertical flex in frame and seatpost, to improve traction and control, resulting in reduced muscle fatigue. Because comfort is speed.

Meet the + Aerodynamics

Designed with ACE+ technology and leveraging years of aerodynamic knowledge from creating the world’s fastest road and time trial bikes, this is the most aerodynamic Teammachine SLR ever designed.

Reengineered tube shapes and functional integration are key design pillars of the newly introduced factor to the ACE equation. Aerodynamics has integrated every component into the design for a high-performance package. The latest developments of the revolutionary ICS cockpits and D-shape seatpost, combined with newly designed downtube and fork, fulfil BMC’s unfailing motivation to create the ultimate all-round race weapon.

Realizing a new set of performance goals, the new downtube features a greater overall surface area with reduced edges, to reduce drag while maintaining stiffness. It also contributes significantly to the all-new Aerocore design, creating a seamless transition with the Aerocore bottle cage. By integrating this functional element, the Aerocore design improves aerodynamic performance according to BMC philosophy: ultimate performance through functional integration.

A crucial element to the aerodynamic performance, the fork has been totally reshaped, based on the outcome of the ACE+ software and the learnings of the Timemachine Road. The blades are now flatter and truncated at the back and a stealth dropout design with an integrated thru-axle nut shows that high technical proficiency can go hand in hand with beautiful and minimalistic design.
